Max Payne The Movie : Don't Let This One To Be Another B-Movie!

As a console game addict, I have a simple question which is hard to answered.
Why did almost every game based movies are dumped as B-movie?

Since the era of Street Fighter (1994), Mortal Combat (1995), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Alone in The Dark (2005), BloodRayne (2006), DOA (2006), Silent Hill (2006), Hitman (2007), until Farcry (2008), almost all of them were produced below Hollywood movie standard, and received bad appreciation by audience, specially by game addicts. There's even a rumor among game addicts, it says that game based movie will never bet the award (except for Razzies award).

But there's new hope for the game addicts community. Abandon Entertainment has announced that Max Payne the movie will be released in 17 October (US). Nevertheless, in 2003 there was rumor that 20th Century Fox had bought the rights to bring the game to film. This project has been "forgotten" for years, and the production (finally) began in 2008. Hmm, seems that they produced it in high speed, but they had failed to launched it in summer. That's okay, we're still waiting for it tough.

Max Payne has been a great name in console game for many years, the game was a great breaktrough for third person shooter genre. Unlike other third person shooter genre at its era, Max Payne already has well cinematic storyline, specially influenced by France noir movie on its characters and Hong Kong action movie on its choreography. Playing Max Payne is more like watching graphic-novel based movie rather than playing console game.

Max Payne the movie director, John Moore surely knows about this game legend. The game itself already had great storyline, so it will be suicide if he did big deviation from the game. By watching the trailer, we will aware that he tried to kept the game tradition into the movie. Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg) is an DEA agent who tried to track down those responsible for the murder of his family and partner. Max Payne partnered with Mona Sax (Mila Kunis) for revenge, but they will be hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation.

Looks similar to default Hong Kong action movie? Yes, but the trailer shows good promise about this movie. Looks like there'll be lot of shooting and blast there. Well, it's okay if it failed to bet Oscar, but please don't follow those loser movie to bet Razzies...

Disaster Movie (2008) - Will It Be a New Disasterous Movie?

Our lovely duet, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer tried their luck in parody genre again. After the failure of Epic Movie (2007) and Meet the Spartans (2008), it seems that they have lost their throne as duo parody movie writer king. But there's still chance waited for them. After releasing of some blockbuster movies by many studios last summer, the duo resumed them in their new movie, Disaster Movie.

The tag is "Not another shallow Hollywood movie". From the trailer and movie poster, I can see replica of Ironman, Hellboy, Batman, Hulk, Indiana Jones, Hancock, Juno, Kung Fu Panda and other blockbusters movie in it. And the plot is...? Yeah sure, it's about disaster, that's what I can tell for now.

Disaster Movie will be released on 29 August in US and 5 September in UK, let's see if it will be a parody of disaster movies or will be a real disaster movie.
